As the weather turns crisp and leaves begin to fall, your skin might start to feel the change too. Cooler temperatures and lower humidity can lead to dryness, dullness, and sensitivity. But with a few adjustments to your skincare routine, you can maintain a healthy, glowing complexion all season long. Here are some fall skincare tips to keep your skin hydrated and glowing this season.

1. Switch to a hydrating cleanser

The gentle gel cleansers you used in summer may not be enough to combat fall's dry air. Opt for a creamy, hydrating cleanser that nourishes your skin while removing dirt and impurities. Look for ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture.

2. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

Fall is the perfect time to swap out your lightweight moisturizer for something more rich and nourishing. Choose a cream-based product that includes ingredients like shea butter, green tea, ceramides, or oils to create a protective barrier against the cold and wind.

3. Exfoliate regularly (but not too much)

While it’s important to remove dead skin cells that accumulate due to dry weather, be careful not to over-exfoliate. Gentle exfoliation once or twice a week with a scrub or a chemical exfoliant like AHA/BHA will help keep your skin smooth without irritating it.

4. Don’t skip the sunscreen

Just because the sun isn’t as intense in fall doesn’t mean you should abandon sunscreen. UV rays can still damage your skin year-round, so continue using an SPF 50 daily to protect against premature aging and sun damage.

5. Add a humidifier to your routine

The dry air inside your home, thanks to indoor heating, can suck moisture from your skin. Using a humidifier in your bedroom or workspace can help add much-needed hydration to the air, keeping your skin from drying out as quickly.

6. Boost hydration with serums

Incorporating a hydrating serum, especially one containing hyaluronic acid, can give your skin an extra layer of moisture. Serums penetrate deeper into the skin, so applying them before your moisturizer can enhance hydration.

7. Focus on lip care

Don’t forget about your lips! The skin on your lips is especially vulnerable to dryness and chapping in cooler weather. Use a lip balm with hydrating ingredients like beeswax or shea butter, and consider a lip scrub to gently exfoliate dead skin.

8. Stay hydrated from within

What you put into your body is just as important as what you put on your skin. Be sure to drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Herbal teas can also be a great way to stay warm while hydrating your body.

9. Treat yourself to a hydrating mask

Indulge in a weekly hydrating mask to give your skin a moisture boost. Masks with ingredients like aloe vera, honey, or avocado can soothe and hydrate, leaving your skin soft and refreshed.
